Arabian Falcon looking left with its beak open

About Hejaz

Hejaz Jalal (she/they) is a queer Syrian-American poet and writer, raised in Saudi Arabia, whose writing covers topics such as feminism, mental health, queerness, faith, colonialism and otherness in a West-dominated world, and nature.

Hejaz is a huge nerd who believes herself to be a curt cynic, but her friends call her overly earnest. She enjoys writing, swimming, dancing poorly, and cats. Hejaz grew up with few queer Arab/Muslim role models, and is trying her best to be the person she needed as a child.

Hejaz is a settler on the ancestral lands of the Nacotchtank, Anacostan, and Piscataway peoples.
